Integrative medicine is catching up leaps and bounds presently as our world is going through a crisis regarding human health. Here is a book “The Energy of Health” by an eminent Russian professor of Computer Science and Biophysics, Dr. Konstantin Korotkov, with his contribution toward predictive and preventive care using gas discharge visualization and Bio-Well devices, which work on the principle of electrophotonic imaging. Dr. Korotkov who is a professor at the St. Petersburg Federal University of Informational Technologies in Russia has published more than 200 articles in leading international journals and holds 17 patents on biophysics inventions. His insatiable curiosity toward spirit and soul has led him toward being a scientific researcher, an adventurous mountaineer, and a philosopher with equal zest. The Bio-well technology is based on EPI which allows the study of energy fields in humans, water, materials, and environment. This book is especially useful for one who wants to understand the basic principle behind Bio-well and the step-by-step procedure involved in analyzing the data obtained. While attending various conferences around the world, Dr. Korotkov became particularly inspired by the works of integrative experts such as Dr. Michael Galitzer and Dr. Larry Trivieri and their book “Outstanding Health” which in turn led him to use some of their insights. The book under review is also important for those who want to understand the foundations of a healthy life incorporating the principles of Bio-well analysis.

Hence, the first part of the book is specifically on health and longevity. The second part explains about the construction and the engineering aspects of the instrument Bio-well. The third part helps us how to analyze Bio-well software parameters in various health situations. The first chapter of Part I starts with how fortunate enough we are to have modern gadgets but at the same time presents a scary picture of modern dangers to health in the form of toxins, genetically modified organisms, radiations from cell phones and microwaves, bottled dead waters, and how doomed we humans are. Yet, by incorporating mind–body medicine, Dr. Korotkov specifically emphasizes the connection of spirit and consciousness on the physical body, thereby stating that good health is attainable by combining various factors. The four-pillar principle is a good approach to a sound health and an in-depth understanding of our bodies. These four pillars are endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, autonomic nervous system, and emotional and stress levels which all form the very basis of Bio-well analysis. Part I ends with a correction strategy with regard to the four pillars stated above and they are in accordance with Dr. Galitzer's recommendations. Suggestions regarding liver detoxification, dietary supplementation, and hormone replacement therapy for women suggested in the book may also be consulted by a trained professional.

From the medical point of view, our health depends on cellular energies that are generated in centers such as mitochondria and this energy depletes due to many causes. It is postulated that biological life is based on light energy and biological compounds inside the body work for the conversion of this energy. One of the key factors involved in Bio-well technology is the imaging of stimulated energy fields which are emitted by the subject in the form of light quanta or photons from their fingertips during application of a high-frequency, high-voltage field. The energy emitted is then mapped on to the body based on the traditional medicine of acupuncture. Not only that, but the data collected as a unique photonic profile are then compared to a very large database using 55 distinct parametric discriminates and charted for discussion and analysis. All this and more is done using state-of-the-art technology such as cloud computing for managing and processing the data and presenting it in the most sophisticated graphical user interface. Part II of the book teaches us how to interpret the Bio-grams (electro-photonic images of fingers that are divided into sectors) and get a detailed analysis. Like any other device, Bio-well needs expertise and the diagrams are better analyzed by people who are experienced. Yet, this is one device which can get one started off immediately due to its advanced interface. There are many different types of algorithm in the software which creates a sense of inkling curiosity among the participants. Energy diagram is represented like a hologram with vivid colors and graphics, making it very appealing. Chakra diagram shows the position and energies of the seven chakras which the author claims is based on Ayurvedic principles and that which definitely adds a bit of spice to the device. The most important aspect of the Bio-well is the health status and the energy reserve of different organs and systems in our bodies. Optimal energy values are known and compared to the subject's bio-grams and other parameters are calculated. The formulae are given for calculating the area, intensity, form coefficient, integral area coefficient, emotional pressure, etc.; however, these mathematical formulae are better appreciated by the left-brained intellectuals. The software does all the calculations and gives us the numbers for statistical analysis. Other examples for environmental studies and studies on water have also been mentioned. Overall, Part II can get one started, but still a few things could have made the manual more helpful such as calibration of the device and its maintenance. It would have been helpful to have the finger analysis table in this book as well.

Part III is purely for practical purposes and may be quite helpful for students or researchers who want to use Bio-well to collect their data. The conditions and precautions while using Bio-well are mentioned clearly and systematically. Further, bio-grams of some most common ailments are analyzed and given in diagrams for us to understand and interpret. Finally, a complete section on oncology has been included implying that cancer statistics is on the rise, with almost 40% of men and women being diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives (based on 2010–2012 data from National Institute of Health). To conclude, it is overall a handy manual to own for students, researchers, and health enthusiasts alike. Inclusion of bibliography and glossary would have made navigation much easier.
